I’ve been working on a personal logo for a few days now and I’ve come up with a basic concept that I really like.  I’ve done several versions of it, and in three different colors.  I’m looking for any and all feedback, critique, opinion, etc.  Don’t worry about being gentile, I can take it.  This is my first attempt ever at anything like this, so I know I have lots to learn and a long way to go.

About me (so you know why I made some of the choices I did).  I’m an artists, I am a potter, sculptor, and mixed media artist, and I’m also trying to learn design and illustration.  I selected a spiral as the basis for my  design for several reasons: Potters Wheel goes round and round :) , I use a lot of spirals in my work, the Fibonacci sequence is one of my favorite things.  I decided to use multiples to represent the concept that my art has a basis in many circles, and I prefer not to be boxed in or confined to one media – but they are all interconnected.  I selected the three color choices because, well, they’re my favorite colors – with chartreuse being in the lead:)  I tried to keep the design fairly loose to represent both the type of work that I do (I work mostly spontaneously and loose) and what my friends tell me is a somewhat crazy and quirky personality.

Ok, if you think there are other things I need to consider besides the above, I’m totally in need of all the help I can get! :)   So please, comment away and let me know what you think. Also, please be sure and click on the image to see it full size, it’s getting a little smooshed in the preview.

mhmm…I don’t find any try really useful for a logo.
I cannot see the message behind it.

However 7b is the clearest of all so I would prefer that.

    Sincerely
    PhoeniXaC

PhoeniXaC, hrm, I see where you might be coming from. Because it’s for “me” I guess it’s easier for me to see the implications I was trying to convey about multiple mediums, biomechanical and organic favorite colors, love of math, that sort of thing. Certainly I have lots to learn, if you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them! :) Thank you for taking the time to comment.

eliminate 4 from the running. the lines and angles appear forced and they lack flow, making it look like the result of haphazardly applied filters.

i like the simplicity and cleanliness of 7 and it’s the most verstile candidate. it will reproduce well in any medium and could be scaled to planetary proportions without any issues, but it lacks the organic vibe of some of the others.

3 is just a tarted up 7. lose it.

eliminate 8. it lacks distinctive character and looks like a flower doodle.

i like the combination of curves and corners on 2. it’s very alive, suggesting arms and eyes and roots and life and friendly monsters. i would like to see a higher-resolution version. the roughness and multiple tones might prove problematic for reproduction in a single color or at very low sizes.

i like 6 for many of the same reasons i like 2, but in a softer, leafier, more tree and octupus kind of way. same concerns apply for small sizes. the detail is going to get lost, particularly in print. the interior spirals will fill in completely.

1 is too messy. looks like someone tried to do 7 with fingerpaints. lose it.

5 has a nice balance and flow about it. i imagine it’s what 2 is like when 2 hasn’t been out all night drinking and scaring small children.

    hope this is helpful.

      Ray,

Thank you so much for the detailed critique! I really appreciate the time it must have taken you to look so carefully. It’s interesting, I’ve gotten the most positive feedback on 3 and 7, and yes, you’re, right, 3 is souped up 7. 8 was definitely my favorite, but I’m positive that it’s because of the symmetry in the design and my affinity for that. Based on what you may have read in my description of what I was shooting for, would you recommend that I go back to the drawing board and start from scratch? If not, I sure would love any suggestions that you might have time to provide. I deeply appreciate your feedback!

      Lori
